What matters when buying
Loose base, springform or fixed
This decides whether a cake survives the turn-out. A springform ring releases a cheesecake without inverting it, a loose base pushes a sponge up from underneath, and a fixed base like the Great British Bakeware pair never leaks but has to be lined and turned. Two of the tins here are fixed base, one kit is springform.
Carbon steel or silicone
Steel conducts heat and gives you browned edges and a crisp base; silicone stays cool, releases without greasing and produces a paler, softer crust. Both appear in this top ten, and they are not substitutes — silicone is the better mould, steel is the better tin.
Coating and the PFAS wording
Non-stick claims are everywhere in this category, but only some listings state what the coating is free of. Two entries here name PFAS, PFOA or BPA explicitly. If that matters to you, treat the absence of the wording as an answer in itself.
Depth and cup size
A muffin tray, a cupcake tin and a Yorkshire pudding tray look alike and are not interchangeable. Deep twelve-cup trays take a full muffin batter, jumbo six-cup trays take about twice the mix per cup, and shallow bun trays overflow with either.
Matching the tin to the recipe
British recipes are written for specific sizes: the 8 inch round for a Victoria sandwich, the 2lb loaf, the 13 by 9 inch traybake. Buying a tin an inch out changes bake times and depth, so check the recipe you actually use before the price.
Sets, kits and consumables
Three entries here are not single tins — a seven-piece stacking set, a 100-piece kit built around three pans, and a pack of parchment liners. Count the tins, not the pieces, when you compare prices, because a 100-piece kit can contain three.
