What matters when buying
Neck diameter is the whole game
Most spirit bottles take a stopper of around 19 mm, which is what the cheap stainless pourers here are cut for. Olive oil, vinegar and some gin bottles are wider, up to about 25 mm, and need an adapter — one listing in this top ten is nothing but adapters, which tells you how often the fit goes wrong.
Free-pour or measured
A speed pourer lets you count the pour; a measured pourer delivers a fixed 45 ml and stops. Bars use the first because it is faster and the staff are trained, home bars often want the second because nobody is counting. Only one entry here measures, and it is the priciest single spout in the list.
Does it seal between pours
This is where the price gap comes from. A bare stainless spout is open to the air, which is fine for spirits and bad for olive oil, which oxidises, and for a kitchen in summer, when fruit flies find the neck. Sealing caps and fly guards are what the £8-a-spout listings are actually selling.
Spirits or oil — not the same spout
Alcohol is thin and pours fast through a tapered stainless spout; olive oil is viscous and wants a wider bore and a drizzle rather than a jet. Half the listings here are sold specifically for oil and vinegar, and using a spirit pourer on oil is the usual cause of a sticky bottle.
Cleaning and the rubber stopper
The rubber cone is what perishes and what holds the smell of last year's rum. Several listings state dishwasher safe and supply a cleaning brush; the cheap twelve-packs assume you will simply replace them. Either approach works, as long as you do not leave a syrup pourer to set.
Price per spout, not per pack
The spread in this comparison is extreme: about 47p a spout at one end and £5.50 at the other for parts of similar size. Divide every price by the pack count before you compare, then decide whether the sealing cap and adapter set justify the difference for what you are pouring.
