Shaker kits with everything but the gin.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Cocktail Shakers and kept only listings with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars, then ordered them by estimated monthly revenue. Nine of the ten are multi-piece kits rather than a shaker on its own, and the number two seller is not a shaker at all but a £239 capsule machine.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Cobbler or Boston

A cobbler is one body with a built-in strainer and a cap — pour, shake, pour out. A Boston is two tins that need a separate strainer, which is what bars use because it seals harder and comes apart faster. Both are in this top ten and the choice changes how the kit is used, not how good the drink is.

02

Capacity against the round

750 ml and 800 ml bodies dominate here, and 25 oz on the American listings is the same thing in different units. One 750 ml shake produces two or three drinks; a smaller shaker means shaking twice when someone else wants one.

03

Piece count versus useful pieces

A 23-piece kit is a shaker plus a great many pourers, picks and stoppers. The tools that get used are the strainer, the jigger, the spoon and the muddler — four items that the £13.99 three- and six-piece sets here already cover.

04

Where the kit lives between drinks

The 23-piece sets come with an acrylic stand, the three-piece sets come with nothing. A stand keeps the tools upright and visible on a worktop; without one the kit goes into a drawer and half of it is never found again.

05

Steel grade in the listing

304 and 18/8 are the same specification and both are named in titles on this page. A listing that states no grade at all is not automatically worse, but under £15 it is the detail worth looking for — this is equipment that spends its life wet and full of citrus.

06

Gift box or working kit

One entry here is priced for presentation and one is a £239 capsule machine that makes the drink for you. If you are buying to actually mix, the plain £14 to £18 kits do the same job as the boxed ones and leave the money for the gin.

Frequently asked questions

Cobbler or Boston shaker at home?

A cobbler is the easier start: the strainer is built in, so there is one less thing to hold and one less thing to buy. A Boston seals more firmly, holds more and separates quickly when you are making several drinks, which is why it is the professional default. Both appear in this top ten.

Is a 23-piece kit better than a 3-piece?

Not necessarily. Beyond the shaker, strainer, jigger, spoon and muddler, the extra pieces are pourers, picks and a recipe booklet. The 23-piece kits do bring a stand, which is a real advantage on a worktop. The three-piece set at rank 10 costs £13.99 and mixes exactly the same drinks.

Why is a cocktail machine in a shaker ranking?

Because Amazon files the Bartesian in the Cocktail Shakers node and it clears the filter on reviews and rating. On revenue it lands second, ahead of every kit except the £17.39 seven-piece set. It is a capsule machine, not a shaker, and we would rather flag it than remove it.

How was this ranking created?

The order comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not from star rating and not from bestseller rank. Only listings with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. Revenue is what separates the kits people buy from the kits people merely rate well.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
