What matters when buying
Length against your glass
A stirrer has to reach the bottom of the glass or it only moves the top third of the drink. The 12 to 14 cm sticks that dominate this list are cut for a coffee cup; a highball, a mojito or an iced coffee needs the 19 cm version.
Wood or acrylic
Disposable wood is for volume service and goes straight in the bin. Acrylic swizzle sticks are washed and used again, and they double as the garnish. Only two listings in this top ten are the reusable kind.
Spoon end or flat paddle
A flat wooden paddle pushes liquid around. A spoon or disc end lifts sugar and syrup off the bottom of the glass, which is what a sweetened or layered drink actually needs.
Count per pack
Boxes here run from 10 pieces to 2,000. A café gets through a 2,000 box in weeks; at home the same box will still be in the cupboard in five years, so the 100-piece pack is usually the honest choice.
Taste transfer
Bare wood picks up flavour and can leave a faint woody note in a cold spirit drink. It is the reason bars keep wooden sticks for coffee and tea and reach for glass or acrylic at the cocktail station.
Certification and disposal
FSC certification and the word compostable are the main things separating otherwise identical wooden boxes on this page. If the sticks go into food waste at a venue, that claim is worth checking on the packaging rather than in the title.
