What matters when buying
Six centimetres, not thirty
A 6 cm pick holds an olive or a cube of cheese; the 30 cm skewers in this list are for kebabs and chocolate fountains. Buying on the category name alone is how people end up with sticks three times longer than the canapé they meant to spear.
Point and splinter risk
These are the picks guests put in their mouths, so a smooth, splinter-free finish matters more here than on any other bar tool. Double-pointed toothpicks are shaped for teeth, not for garnish, even when the listing sells them as both.
Disposable or reusable
Birchwood and bamboo go in the bin after one round; stainless steel martini picks are washed and used again. The metal sets here work out around 60p a pick against a fraction of a penny for wood, so the decision is really about the kind of event.
Count and price per stick
Pack sizes on this page run from 20 to 3,000 pieces, which makes the headline price close to meaningless. Divide by the count first — on that measure the £3.33 box beats the 75p one.
