The seal is the product
A humidor is a sealed box and everything else is furniture. A lid or door that closes flat and stays closed is what holds humidity between openings — one entry here names a magnetic tight-seal door — and no quantity of cedar, drawers or gold-plated hardware compensates for a lid that does not sit true.
Spanish cedar or unspecified cedar
The titles here say cedar wood, cedar lined and Spanish cedar, and those are not the same claim. Spanish cedar is the traditional lining because it holds moisture well and carries the aroma cigar smokers expect. A listing that only says cedar is telling you considerably less than one that names the species.
Stated capacity versus what fits
Capacities of 30, 150, 200, 300 and 500 cigars appear in these titles. Those figures assume the box packed solid with one ring gauge and nothing else inside, so plan on noticeably fewer once trays, dividers and humidifiers have taken their space. Buy a size up from the number you think you need.
The hygrometer and whether to trust it
Every cabinet in this list ships with a hygrometer and most are digital. A reading is only worth having if the gauge is accurate, and inexpensive units are often out by several points — which is why experienced buyers calibrate a new one against a known reference before they rely on it.
Two-way packs or a refillable humidifier
Two of the ten entries here are Boveda packs rather than boxes, which tells you how much of this market is consumables. A two-way pack holds a set level such as 69% or 72% and is swapped every few months; a sponge or crystal unit is topped up with solution and needs watching. Either way, budget beyond the box.
Glass tops and interior lighting
Three cabinets here sell themselves on triple-sided lighting. Display features mean more joints and more openings, and joints are exactly where a sealed box leaks humidity. Lighting a cigar collection is a furniture decision, not a storage one — decide which of the two you are buying.
