Count the pieces
Half of this top ten is one object in a presentation box. Read the title through to the end before comparing prices: the Kloveo listing is a single stopper, the Le Creuset is two pieces, and only the SumDirect box holds the corkscrew, cutters, aerator, stopper, thermometers and drip rings that the category name suggests.
Corkscrew mechanism
The lever-arm rabbit in this list pulls a cork with almost no wrist strength; a waiter's friend needs technique and a winged screw needs two hands and a firm table. If the set is a gift for someone with a weak grip, the mechanism decides whether it gets used or put in a drawer.
Which kind of aerator
Three different devices are called an aerator here: an in-neck pourer you leave in the bottle, a glass decanting funnel, and a rechargeable electric pourer. They differ mainly in what has to be rinsed afterwards, which is the part the gift box never mentions.
Duplicates in the drawer
Nearly every box here contains a vacuum stopper and a pourer. If the recipient already owns a wine pump, the genuinely new part of a £25 set may be the corkscrew alone — and a good standalone corkscrew costs less than that.
Vacuum sets or argon
The £399.99 Coravin belongs to a different problem. It pours through the cork under argon so the bottle is never opened, while every other entry here reseals a bottle you have already pulled. It also needs replacement capsules, which the gift sets do not.
What the box is worth
Dark cherry wood, crystal detail, a fitted presentation case: on a gift these are half of what you are paying for and they show. For your own kitchen drawer they are dead weight, and the loose tools cost noticeably less.
