What matters when buying

Six criteria

Steel flask or soft pouch

A stainless hip flask is the thing you hand round and keep for years; a plastic pouch is what folds flat in a pocket and gets thrown away eventually. Half of this top ten is pouches, and they are priced per pack rather than per flask.

What it is disguised as

Two listings hide the drink inside an everyday object: an umbrella shaft and a paddle hairbrush handle. Ask whether you would carry that object anyway, because the disguise costs capacity — the hairbrush holds 185 ml, while a plain 8 oz flask holds more.

Ounces, not millilitres

Hip flasks are sold in ounces. Four is a token, six is the classic pocket size that lies flat in a jacket, and eight or twelve start to show through the fabric. Pouches are quoted in millilitres or as a combined set capacity, which makes a direct comparison awkward.

Funnel and neck width

Flask necks are deliberately narrow, so a funnel is the difference between filling it and wearing it. Both Yizerel pairs and both WJIASI packs include one; the Stanley set and the two novelty flasks do not mention a funnel at all.

One flask or a multipack
