What matters when buying
Crusher, shaver or pick
Three unrelated tools share this subcategory. A shaved ice machine produces snow for snow cones, an electric crusher chops cubes for slush and cocktails, and a pick chips a big block into irregular shards. Only the first two do anything you would call crushing.
Crank or mains power
The hand-cranked machine at rank one needs no socket and can go into a garden or a caravan, but every glass is your arm. The single electric model here is £19 dearer and takes worktop space and a plug in return.
What comes out, and into what
The powered entry here is sold with its own jug, a stirrer and a scoop, so the output lands somewhere sensible. The manual machine is fed and emptied by hand. Check what is in the box before assuming you can catch a litre of slush in a tumbler.
A pick is a sharp object
Every pick in this list is 9 inches of spike, and the useful ones ship with a screw-on or push-fit cover. That cover is the difference between a drawer you can reach into and one you cannot — it matters more than the handle material.
Cocktail ice or party ice
If you want one clear chunk shaped for a whisky glass, that is a pick or an ice shaper. If you want a jug of crushed for mojitos or a tray of shaved for the children, that is a machine. The products either side of that line have nothing in common.
Ratings that outlived the demand
Several entries here carry 4.7 stars and a thousand reviews on a bestseller rank in the millions. High stars on a dormant listing tell you it sold well somewhere, at some point — not that it is a live product on Amazon.co.uk today. Read the revenue column alongside the stars.
How the score is calculated — and what it is not
Der Passungs-Score (0–10) ist der nach deinem Bedarf gewichtete Schnitt aus sieben Kriterien — kein eigener Labortest.
The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
