What matters when buying
Rings or holders
Three of these ten are not napkin rings at all. A ring slides over a rolled napkin at each place setting; a holder sits on the table and grips or stacks loose napkins. Amazon files both under the same node, so read the pack shot before ordering twelve of the wrong thing.
Set size against your table
The sets here come in fours, sixes and twelves. Four seats four and nothing more, which is why the twelves dominate the revenue — they cover a table of six with a spare set in the drawer for when half of them are in the wash.
Ring diameter and napkin weight
A heavy linen napkin needs a noticeably wider ring than a thin polycotton one. Metal bands have no give at all, wood and jute a little, and a ring that will not close over your own napkins is the most common disappointment in this category.

Wooden and jute rings are wipe-clean items and suit a rustic table; metal rings take a polish and can dull over time, which is the trade for the formal look. None of these are designed to go through the dishwasher with the plates.
Price per ring, not per set
The spread on this page runs from 83p a ring for the acacia twelve to £4.57 for the gold six — more than five times the price for the same job. Divide the set price by the count before deciding that anything looks like a bargain.
