Comparison 2026 · 10 products · Amazon.co.uk

The price that matters is per cartridge, not per pack.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Filter Cartridges and kept only products with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars. Ranked by estimated monthly revenue, the ten below run from £2.50 to £39 per cartridge — and three of them will not go near a jug, because this node also holds tap and under-sink refills.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Divide by the pack size

A cartridge is a consumable, so the only comparable number is the price of one. In this top ten that runs from £2.50 in a twelve-pack to £39 for an under-sink filter sold in twos. Headline prices between £11 and £78 tell you almost nothing until you have divided.

02

Jug, tap or under-sink

Amazon files three incompatible fittings in this one node. A MAXTRA-shaped jug cartridge, a BRITA P1000 for an on-tap system and an InSinkErator F-701R for a plumbed hot water tap all appear here, and none of them will go in the wrong housing. Check the fitting before the price.

03

Original or compatible

Half of this list is third-party refills sold as fitting Brita jugs — note the asterisks and the wording, because Maxtra and MAXTRA PRO are not the same shape. The original twelve-pack works out at £3.90 a cartridge against £2.50 for the compatibles, which is what the guaranteed fit costs.

04

Litres, not weeks

Four weeks is a guess about your household; litres is a measurement. Only two listings here state one — 250 litres for the Aquaphor and 454 litres for the under-sink filter. A family that drinks and cooks with filtered water will get through a jug cartridge long before the calendar says so.

05

What it claims to reduce

Standard carbon refills are sold against limescale and chlorine — taste and kettle scale. The ZeroWater is an ion-exchange filter sold against lead and PFOA/PFOS, the Klar against fluoride. If you are buying for a specific contaminant rather than for taste, that difference is the whole purchase.

06

Bulk buying and price swings

A twelve-pack is the cheapest per cartridge but commits you to about a year of one system. Prices here moved between −31% and +13% during the observed period, so a bulk box locks in a price that may or may not look clever in six months.

Frequently asked questions

Will a cheaper compatible cartridge fit my Brita jug?

Usually yes, but check which Brita system you own. Compatible refills from Aqua Optima, Amazon Basics, Aquaphor and BTRSOLUS are all sold as fitting Brita jugs, and several use the asterisk wording that signals they are an alternative rather than a licensed part. Jugs designed for MAXTRA PRO can be fussier than older Maxtra models, and the lid indicator will not reset itself for a third-party filter.

Why does one cartridge cost £35.99 and another £2.50?

Because they are not the same kind of part. The BRITA P1000 is a single cartridge for an on-tap filter and the InSinkErator F-701R is an under-sink cartridge for a hot water tap, both of which are plumbed-in systems. Jug refills are sold in threes, fours, sixes and twelves, which is where the £2.50 to £3.90 range comes from.

Why do several listings show the same review count?

Amazon pools reviews across the variants of a listing. The Aqua Optima twelve-pack and four-pack both show 8,221 reviews for that reason, and the ZeroWater figure of 94,978 covers seven pack sizes. Treat the star rating as a verdict on the product family, not on the specific box you are putting in the basket.

How was this ranking created?

The products are ordered by estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not by star rating and not by bestseller rank. Only products with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. In a consumable category revenue is a good proxy for what people actually keep re-ordering, rather than what they bought once.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
