A lacquered screw lid is the standard for jam and is meant to be replaced once the vacuum has been broken. A clip-top uses a rubber gasket that you replace instead of the lid. Both work; only one of them is a lifetime purchase, and only one entry here is a clip-top.
200 ml jars are portions, 8 oz jars are the gift size for preserves, 480 ml is a full standard jam jar and 500 ml is breakfast. Per jar the spread on this page runs from about 92p to over £2, so compare by the jar and not by the pack.
An airtight lid keeps air out of a jar you already opened. Preserving means filling hot and letting the cooling jar pull its own vacuum, which needs glass and a lid rated for it. The plastic covers and can lids here do the first job only, for days rather than months.
Three of the ten listings are elastic covers or tin lids and three more are overnight-oats containers. They earn their place on revenue, but if you came for jars to bottle a glut of plums, only the hexagonal packs and the Kilner bottles answer that.
Hexagonal jars read as preserves and are what most gift sets use; they also waste shelf width. Round jars pack tighter in a cupboard and take a wraparound label without creasing.
One set here ships with sticker labels and another with gingham lids, which matters if the jars are going out as presents. Plan for replacing lids too: a lid that has sealed once should not be trusted to seal a second time.
