Comparison 2026 · 10 products · Amazon.co.uk

Three of these ten are not containers at all.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Food Storage — boxes, tubs and jars that come with their own lids, not the replacement pan covers filed under Lids — and kept only products with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars. Ranked by estimated monthly revenue, the ten below include a 24-piece glass set and a fridge-door jug, plus three things that are not sealed containers at all: pop-up mesh covers, a bottle cool bag and a 30-litre cool bag rucksack.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Oven-safe or lunchbox-safe

Glass does not stain from tomato sauce and usually goes in the oven, but it is heavy and it breaks. Plastic is lighter and cheaper and the sensible choice for a school bag. Both appear here at a similar set price, so the decision is about where the box gets used rather than about budget.

02

Airtight, or just a lid

A snap-lock lid with clips on four sides is what makes a box leakproof enough to travel; a push-on lid keeps air off a shelf and no more. The MCIRCO and Joseph Joseph sets are the clip-lid options here, while the jug, the jar and the tubs are meant to stay put.

03

Piece counts include lids

A 24-piece set is normally twelve boxes and twelve lids. Divide before you compare, otherwise the biggest number wins an argument it should not — and check the stated dimensions when two sets look equally large.

04

Nesting and stacking

Empty containers take more cupboard space than full ones. Nesting sets collapse into the largest box, the snack pots here sit in a stacked column, and identical square boxes waste far less shelf than an assortment of round ones.

05

The shape of the space, not the litres

Two litres in a flat rectangle fits a fridge door; two litres in a round tub does not. The jug at rank 2 sells 2,972 units a month on exactly that geometry, and the 4 litre tubs at rank 8 are cut for a chest freezer instead.

06

Cold transport is a different job

Three entries here insulate rather than seal: a bottle cool bag, a cool bag rucksack and a set of mesh covers. They belong on a picnic blanket, not in a fridge, and none of them will stop a sauce leaking into a bag.

Frequently asked questions

Glass or plastic containers?

Glass for reheating, for anything oily or strongly coloured, and for the fridge shelf you look at every day. Plastic for lunch bags, for children and for anything that gets dropped. Both types are in this top ten and the set prices are close, so it is a question of use rather than of price.

Why does a 24-piece set contain only twelve boxes?

Because lids count as pieces. A 24-piece set is normally twelve containers with twelve matching lids, and the same convention runs through the whole category. Compare the stated dimensions and the number of boxes rather than the headline figure.

Why are cool bags and fly covers in a food storage ranking?

Because Amazon files them in this subcategory and they earn enough to reach the top ten. We leave them in and label them rather than quietly dropping them: it says something real about where the money in Food Storage goes. The MTS cool bag at rank 5 also ranks first in Shopping Bags and Baskets.

How was this ranking created?

The products are ordered by estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not by star rating and not by bestseller rank. Only listings with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. Most entries here are sets or multipacks, so the price shown is the price of the whole pack.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
