What matters when buying
Blade mill or burr
A blade mill chops beans into uneven fragments; a burr grinder crushes them between two surfaces and produces a consistent particle size. Several listings here name their stainless steel blades in the title, and only the £188.50 Sage is priced in the burr class. For a cafetière the difference is small; for espresso it is everything.
Grind for your brewer
Espresso needs a fine, repeatable grind; a French press needs a coarse one that will not sludge through the mesh. A mill with no setting is controlled purely by how long you hold the button, which is workable for filter and maddening for espresso.
Capacity in grams, not cups
The bowls here run from 60 g to 80 g, roughly four to twelve cups depending on who is counting. Cup figures on the box are optimistic; grams tell you whether one grind fills the cafetière or you have to run it twice.
Coffee and spice in one bowl
Most of these listings are sold for pepper, garlic, ginger and nuts as well as beans. Cumin does not wash out of a fixed grinding chamber, so if you want both jobs, buy the version with two removable cups rather than scrubbing one.
