Unlike a plunger, a basket infuser keeps steeping until you physically lift it out. Look for one you can remove one-handed while it is wet and hot, and somewhere to put it down — a lid that doubles as a saucer is worth more than an extra 200 ml.
Two glass pots here are marked stovetop safe, so you can heat water in the pot itself; only one is also microwave safe. Cast iron goes on a hob but never in a microwave, and vacuum steel goes in neither.
A pot sold as four to five cups holds 1.2 litres, which is three British mugs. Convert every listing to millilitres before comparing, and remember that a pot poured to the brim drips down the outside.
Glass shows the colour of the brew, which is how you judge when it is done, and loses heat fastest. Cast iron and vacuum steel hold heat for an hour and show you nothing. A cosy is the cheap fix for the first problem; nothing fixes the second.
