What matters when buying
Temperature selection or just boil
Green and white tea want 70 to 85 °C; boiling water scalds the leaf and turns it bitter. The three Ninja models here let you pick and hold a temperature, and that single feature is the whole reason they cost £79 to £99.99 against £20 for a kettle that only knows 100 °C.
3 kW against travel wattage
Every full-size kettle in this list quotes 3 kW and boils a mug in well under a minute. The 1000 W travel model takes several times as long, and that is the trade for dual voltage and a body that fits in a suitcase.
Limescale and the filter
In hard-water Britain the scale filter is the part you handle most. Every Russell Hobbs here quotes a removable washable anti-scale filter — check it pulls out from the spout without tools, because one that does not simply never gets cleaned.
Glass, plastic or brushed steel
