Cast aluminium is not magnetic, so the six Moka Express pots here will not heat on an induction hob without a separate steel adaptor disc. The four stainless New Venus models will. This one question rules out most of this page for a lot of modern kitchens.
Six cups is 270 to 300 ml in total, so a cup here is roughly 45 to 50 ml of espresso-strength coffee. If you drink mugs, a 6 cup pot fills one and a half of them — buy at least two sizes above what the number suggests.
The basket and the boiler have to be filled to their rated level for the pressure to build, so a 9 cup pot always makes nine cups. Buy for the amount you make most mornings, not for the once-a-month gathering.
The rubber seal under the basket hardens after a year or two of heat and starts letting steam out of the seam. One pot here includes a spare gasket and filter plate; for the others, check that replacements exist for that exact size before you commit.
Bare aluminium is rinsed with hot water and left to dry — detergent and dishwashers dull it and pit the interior. The stainless New Venus pots take a dishwasher. That difference decides how the pot looks in three years.
A 2 cup pot puts your fingers close to the flame, which is why one model here advertises an anti-scald handle. Also check the base against your smallest ring: a narrow moka pot on a wide burner heats the handle as much as the water.
