What matters when buying
Eight cups is one litre
Eight cups is one litre and three cups is 350 ml, so a cup in this category is roughly 125 ml — less than a mug. Compare the millilitres in the title and ignore the cup count entirely.
Glass beaker or insulated steel
Borosilicate lets you watch the bloom and costs little to replace when it breaks. An insulated steel body survives being knocked off a worktop and keeps the pot hot past the first cup, but you cannot see the level or the colour.
How many filter layers
A single mesh disc lets fines through and leaves silt in the last inch of the cup. Presses here quote up to four stacked screens — clearer coffee, but a slower plunge and more parts to rinse.
Grind, not the press
Every press on this page needs a coarse grind. Anything close to espresso fineness clogs the mesh, makes the plunger hard to push and forces grounds past the screen — no filter design on this page compensates for it.
Decant or over-extract
