What matters when buying
How the chamber gets clean
Six of the ten titles here sell cleaning rather than crushing, which tells you where the real annoyance lies. A built-in comb or a supplied cleaning tool pushes the pulp back out through the holes; without one you are working at the perforations with a brush after every clove.
Peel or no peel
Five titles promise you can drop the clove in with the skin still on. It works because the skin stays behind as a flat plug in the chamber — so you swap peeling beforehand for emptying a papery disc afterwards. Whether that is progress depends on how many cloves you get through.
Fine mince or coarse crush
