A traditional opener cuts the lid from above and leaves a sharp rim on both the lid and the tin. It is slower to line up than a top cutter, and it is the safer choice with children in the kitchen.
Look for a large turn knob rather than a small key, cushioned handles that do not need a hard squeeze, and a smooth-edge cut so no sharp lid has to be handled. The Zulay at rank 8 and the Otstar at rank 5 are both marketed for exactly this, and the OXO soft handles at rank 1 are the reason that opener sells as it does.
