What matters when buying
Pump, crank or pull cord
Three mechanisms are sold in this category and they feel completely different: a push pump you can work one-handed, a side crank that spins fastest, and a pull cord that is cheap and wears out first. Listings rarely name the mechanism in the title, so the product photos are what you have to read.
Capacity in litres, not the bowl
The stated volumes here run from a 16 cm one-person bowl to 5.2 litres. A spinner only dries well when the leaves have room to fly outwards, so the useful load is roughly half the stated litres — buy larger than the salad you think you make.
A brake, or you chase it round the worktop
Two things separate a good spinner from a frustrating one: a non-slip base and a brake or stop button. Without a brake the basket freewheels for a long time after you stop, and without the base it travels across the worktop while you hold the lid.
Does the bowl go on the table
Most people leave the spinner assembled and serve from it. That is why the bowl material matters: plastic is light and scratches, glass and steel look like a serving bowl and survive the dishwasher better. Both premium options here cost roughly twice the plastic version.
How it comes apart to be washed
The lid is the part that traps water and shredded leaf. Look for a lid that separates from the mechanism, and a basket that works as a colander on its own — that second function is what stops the spinner living in a cupboard.
Herbs or a family salad
The two small models here sell in almost the same numbers as the full-size ones, because drying a handful of parsley is the most frequent use. If that is your case, a compact spinner is not a compromise; the 5 litre bowls only make sense for a household that eats leaves daily.
