What matters when buying
Bags, cups or a pan
Three formats sit in this one top ten. Disposable bags cost pennies per egg and leave nothing to wash; loose silicone cups need a pan of water you already own; a dedicated poacher pan is the biggest outlay and the only one that stores as a single object.
How many eggs at once
Two, four and six-cup pans all appear here, and the six-cup RUNZI costs £14 more than the two-cup version of the same design. Count the people you actually cook breakfast for before paying for cups that stay empty.
Cup material and coating
Silicone cups flex, so a set egg pops out without a knife; coated steel cups feel more solid but the coating is what eventually goes. PFOA-free is named in two titles here, which tells you which coating the seller wants you to think about.
Will it work on your hob
Poacher pans are sold with a base plate of water underneath, so hob compatibility is a real question. Both RUNZI listings and the CozyKit name induction explicitly; loose silicone cups sidestep the issue because any pan will do.
Cups you can replace
Rank 10 in this list is a set of four spare cups sold on its own. That is worth knowing before you buy: on a pan whose cups are replaceable, a scratched coating is a £21 problem rather than a new pan.
Air fryer and oven use
Only the silicone cups are listed for the air fryer and the oven as well as the hob. If poached eggs are an occasional thing and the air fryer is already on, that flexibility is worth more than a dedicated pan taking up a cupboard.
