Six utensil sets — and four kits that wandered in.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Tools & Gadget Sets and kept only products with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars. It is a catch-all node: ranked by estimated monthly revenue you get six general utensil sets from 6 to 37 pieces, plus a sushi kit, an onigiri mould and a cheese-making kit that share nothing but the word set.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Count the pieces you would buy alone

A 37-piece set is only good value if you would have bought most of it separately. Strip out the holder, the duplicate spoons and the tools you already own, and a 22-piece set at £12.99 often comes down to five or six things you will actually use — which is still fine at that price, but it is a different calculation.

02

What the piece count is hiding

Manufacturers count the stand, the spare heads and every near-identical spoon. Two sets here claim 37 pieces and two claim 22; nobody publishes the breakdown in the title, so the product photo is the only place you can count what you are getting.

03

Silicone, nylon or steel

All three appear in this top ten and they suit different pans. Silicone and nylon are the only safe choices on non-stick coatings and both have a stated heat ceiling; stainless steel takes any heat but will score a coated pan. Buy for the pans you own, not for the look of the set.

04

Does it come with a stand, and where does it go

Three sets here include a stand or a rotating caddy. That is the difference between utensils on the worktop and utensils in a drawer, and a rotating stand needs clear space around it. It also adds one to the piece count for nothing.

05

Set versus three good tools

For £13 to £15 you get 12 to 22 unbranded pieces, or one good turner plus one good pair of tongs. A set makes sense when you are equipping a kitchen from nothing, moving into a rental, or replacing a drawer of melted plastic. It rarely makes sense as an upgrade.

06

Not every kit here is a utensil set

Four of these ten are single-purpose kits: a sushi kit, a rice ball mould, a cheese-making mould. They are gifts and hobby items, they do not overlap with a utensil set in any way, and they are only in the same ranking because Amazon files everything with more than one part under this node.

Frequently asked questions

What is actually in a 22 or 37 piece set?

Nobody says in the title, which is the honest answer. Expect a handful of genuinely distinct tools — turner, slotted spoon, ladle, tongs, whisk, spatula — and then variations, spare heads, small accessories and the holder, all counted individually. Judge the photo, not the number.

Why are a sushi kit and a cheese-making kit in this ranking?

Because Tools & Gadget Sets is a catch-all node on Amazon.co.uk. Anything sold as a multi-part kit can land here, so an onigiri mould, a bamboo sushi kit and a cheese press sit alongside utensil sets. They are ranked on the same revenue basis, but they are not alternatives to each other.

Is a set cheaper than buying the tools individually?

On paper, always — 22 pieces for £12.99 is under 60p each, and no individual tool sells for that. What you cannot see is the quality per piece. If you want a turner with a thin edge or tongs that lock, buy those two separately and skip the set; if you need a whole drawer filled at once, the set wins on price by a wide margin.

How was this ranking created?

The products are ordered by estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not by star rating and not by bestseller rank. Only products with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. This node is small and the revenues are correspondingly low — the leader here earns under £4,000 a month, so a handful of sales moves a product several places.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
