What matters when buying
Blades that come apart
One pair here separates into two halves. That matters the moment you cut raw chicken: a fixed pivot traps fat and juice where no brush reaches, while separated halves can be scrubbed or put through the dishwasher flat.
The notch in the handle
Four of these ten build a bottle or jar opener into the handle, and one is sold partly on that. It is genuinely useful in a drawer that has no bottle opener, but the notch also adds bulk exactly where your fingers sit.
Micro-serrated or plain edge
A finely serrated lower blade stops slippery skin and plastic film sliding out of the jaws; a plain ground edge, as on the Victorinox here, cuts herbs and paper more cleanly and is far easier to resharpen. Neither is better in general — they fail at different jobs.
Left-handed use
Scissors are not symmetrical: the blade overlap is set for a right-handed squeeze, so a left-hander pushes the blades apart and the cut wanders. Only the ZWILLING pair here is explicitly listed for both hands.
One pair or a twin pack
The revenue leader is a two-pack, so its price covers two pairs. Compare per pair before you conclude anything about value — and consider whether a second pair for raw meat is actually the tidier answer to hygiene.
Not the same tool as poultry shears
Kitchen scissors are ground for herbs, packaging, skin and cartilage. Poultry shears have shorter curved blades, a bone notch and a spring, and they are built to part joints. Trying to cut a chicken carcass with a £4 pair is how handles crack.
