What matters when buying
Wheel, scissors or rocker
Eight of these ten are wheels and one is a pair of scissors. A wheel is fast but drags the topping sideways if the blade is anything less than sharp; scissors cut and lift the slice in one movement and cope far better with a loaded deep-pan. A rocker blade, which does not appear in this top ten at all, cuts a whole pizza in two presses but needs a board wider than the pizza.
Wheel diameter and knuckle clearance
The OXO here states 8.9 cm, which is about as small as a wheel gets before your knuckles arrive at the pizza. A larger wheel rolls through a thick crust in one pass instead of three and keeps your hand clear of a hot tray — worth more than any handle material.
Blade guard and the washing-up risk
A pizza wheel is the kitchen tool people cut themselves on at the sink rather than at the table, because the blade spins freely in soapy water. A guard between the hand and the edge, or a design that locks the wheel, matters more here than on any other cutter.
How it comes apart
Mozzarella dries onto the axle and inside the fork, and that is the part a dishwasher does not reach. Joseph Joseph sells the Disc specifically on separating for cleaning; a riveted wheel has to be picked at with a brush every time.
What you cut on
You cannot cut on a pizza stone, and a steel wheel will score a non-stick tray on the first pass. Whatever you buy, the pizza moves to a board first — which is also why the handle length in these listings is worth a glance.
The peel is a separate tool
The top seller in this subcategory is a 7-inch turning peel, not a slicer, and it is worth knowing why: if you bake on a stone or in an outdoor oven, the peel decides whether the pizza arrives intact. The cutter is only the last ten seconds of the job.
