Comparison 2026 · 10 products · Amazon.co.uk

Half this top ten never sees a kitchen.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Kitchen Timers and kept only products with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars, then ranked by estimated monthly revenue. Five of the ten are cooking timers in the ordinary sense; the other five are Pomodoro flip cubes, classroom sand timers and a visual countdown for children — the same node, an entirely different buyer.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Digital, mechanical or sand

All three formats sit in this one ranking. Digital counts to the second and beeps. A mechanical wind-up needs no battery, rings rather than beeps, and is the only kind that still works in five years without a thought. Sand shows time passing but cannot be set to anything other than its fixed run.

02

How it attaches to something

Magnetic back, fold-out kickstand and a hanging hole are the three options, and the Antonki twin-pack lists all three. A magnet on the oven door is the difference between hearing the alarm and finding the timer under a tea towel twenty minutes later.

03

How loud, and can you turn it down

Both ThermoPro entries advertise an adjustable alarm volume, the mechanical Vzmiza advertises a loud ring, and the flip cubes offer a silent mode. Adjustable is the useful setting here: loud enough to hear from another room, quiet enough not to wake a sleeping house.

04

The longest time it will run

The Salter reaches 19 hours 59 minutes, the visual timer stops at 99 minutes, and the flip cubes only offer 5, 10, 25 and 50 minute faces plus a custom setting. A slow roast or an overnight prove needs the long one; an egg needs none of that reach.

05

Counting up as well as down

Only the Salter names a count-up mode and a memory function. Counting up matters when you started something before you thought about timing it, and memory saves resetting the same interval every time you make the same thing.

06

Kitchen timer or focus timer

Flip cubes and visual timers are sold for study blocks, classrooms and ADHD support, and they set fixed intervals rather than an arbitrary seven minutes. They lead this ranking on revenue, but a cooking timer needs to be set to whatever the recipe says — not to 25 minutes because that is what a face on the cube offers.

Frequently asked questions

Why are Pomodoro cubes and sand timers in a kitchen timer ranking?

Because Amazon files them here. Five of the top ten are study and classroom products: two flip cubes, two sand-timer multipacks and one visual countdown for children. Between them they take the largest share of revenue in this node. It is a genuine finding about who actually buys in this subcategory rather than an error in the list.

Mechanical or digital?

A mechanical timer needs no batteries, rings loudly and cannot be caught out by a flat cell halfway through a bake — the Vzmiza here is the only one. Digital models count to the second, often count up as well as down, and are cheaper: the Antonki twin-pack is £5.92 for two. Mechanical timers cannot usually be set below a minute or two with any precision.

Do I need a magnetic timer?

If the timer lives on the fridge or the oven door, yes, and most of the cooking timers here have one — the Antonki pack, the Vzmiza and the Salter all name a magnetic back. The flip cubes and sand timers do not, because they are designed to sit on a desk where you can see them.

How was this ranking created?

The products are ordered by estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not by star rating and not by bestseller rank. Only products with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. Of 420 matching products, these ten take the most money — which is how two £18.99 study cubes end up above a £6.78 timer that sells more units.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
