Tea towel or dishcloth

This subcategory mixes two different things. A tea towel is roughly 70 x 50 cm and exists to dry plates and glasses; a dishcloth is a 30 x 30 to 38 x 40 cm square for wiping down surfaces. Four of the ten entries here are the small squares, so read the dimensions before you assume you are buying drying-up cloths.

Price per cloth, not per pack

Every listing in this ranking is a multipack, and the headline prices are not comparable. Divide it out: the spread here runs from 96p a cloth on the twelve-pack at rank 10 to £3.36 on the plaid twelve-pack at rank 3, for cloths of identical size and weight.

GSM, where it is stated

Only the Utopia listings quote a weight — 200 GSM. Heavier cotton holds more water per wipe but takes longer to dry on the rail, which is why catering packs sit around 200 GSM while household tea towels are often lighter and are rarely labelled at all.

Terry cotton or microfibre

Terry cotton has raised loops that soak up volume and can leave lint on glassware.
