What matters when buying
Pad, stone or silicone
Three constructions share this subcategory. A fabric pad soaks the water up and goes in the washing machine; a diatomite stone board takes it into the slab and is wiped over; a silicone mat absorbs nothing at all and is tipped into the sink. Decide which of those routines you will actually keep up before you compare prices.
Measure the strip you have
The formats here run from 30 x 40 cm up to 50 x 40 cm, and the shape matters more than the area. A 30 x 50 cm mat suits the narrow run between sink and wall, while 40 x 50 cm wants a clear stretch of worktop. Measure that gap first — a mat overhanging the edge drips onto the cupboard doors.
Backing and grip
Every fabric mat in this ranking names a rubber or anti-slip backing, because a wet pad that slides is worse than no pad. Stone boards do not slide, but one of them adds raised legs so the underside is not permanently damp — the detail that decides whether the worktop underneath stays dry.
How you clean it
Microfibre and fabric pads go through a normal wash and one here adds an antibacterial finish. Stone cannot be washed that way and silicone is wiped or rinsed. In a kitchen that dries dishes daily, the washable pad is the easier one to keep hygienic; stone is the one that never needs a wash cycle.
Coffee mat or dish mat

The product is identical, but the use is not: a coffee mat catches small, constant drips, while a dish mat has to hold the water off a full drainer. If you are drying a whole sink of crockery, size and absorbency matter more than looks.
