Absorbent pad, stone slab or silicone — pick one.

We analysed the Amazon.co.uk subcategory Dish Drying Mats and kept only products with at least 200 reviews and 4.3 stars. Ranked by estimated monthly revenue, the ten split into three constructions that behave nothing alike: soft absorbent pads on a rubber back, rigid diatomite stone boards, and silicone mats that hold the water on top instead of soaking it up.

What matters when buying

Six criteria
01

Pad, stone or silicone

Three constructions share this subcategory. A fabric pad soaks the water up and goes in the washing machine; a diatomite stone board takes it into the slab and is wiped over; a silicone mat absorbs nothing at all and is tipped into the sink. Decide which of those routines you will actually keep up before you compare prices.

02

Measure the strip you have

The formats here run from 30 x 40 cm up to 50 x 40 cm, and the shape matters more than the area. A 30 x 50 cm mat suits the narrow run between sink and wall, while 40 x 50 cm wants a clear stretch of worktop. Measure that gap first — a mat overhanging the edge drips onto the cupboard doors.

03

Backing and grip

Every fabric mat in this ranking names a rubber or anti-slip backing, because a wet pad that slides is worse than no pad. Stone boards do not slide, but one of them adds raised legs so the underside is not permanently damp — the detail that decides whether the worktop underneath stays dry.

04

How you clean it

Microfibre and fabric pads go through a normal wash and one here adds an antibacterial finish. Stone cannot be washed that way and silicone is wiped or rinsed. In a kitchen that dries dishes daily, the washable pad is the easier one to keep hygienic; stone is the one that never needs a wash cycle.

05

Coffee mat or dish mat

Several of these listings are sold twice over — once as a drying mat, once as a coffee machine mat. The product is identical, but the use is not: a coffee mat catches small, constant drips, while a dish mat has to hold the water off a full drainer. If you are drying a whole sink of crockery, size and absorbency matter more than looks.

06

Check the size in the variant picker

One entry in this top ten gives no dimensions in its title at all, and another appears twice in two sizes under the same photograph. Prices in this subcategory are set per size, so the picture on the listing is not proof of what lands on your worktop — read the selected variant.

Frequently asked questions

Is a stone mat better than a microfibre one?

They solve the problem differently. Diatomite spreads water across a rigid surface and needs no laundering, which suits a permanent spot beside the sink; microfibre holds far more water at once and can be washed, which suits heavy drying-up. Three stone boards and several fabric pads made this top ten, so both clearly sell.

What size should I buy?

Measure the free run of worktop next to the sink and take a couple of centimetres off each side. In this ranking 30 x 40 cm is the small format for a coffee machine or a few plates, 40 x 50 cm and 50 x 40 cm take a full drainer, and 30 x 50 cm is the long, narrow shape for a tight gap.

Why do two entries look like the same mat?

Ranks 1 and 4 are the same SARTNP mat in 40 x 50 cm and 30 x 40 cm, listed under separate ASINs with the same photograph and the same 209 reviews. Amazon prices each size on its own, so the £4 difference is size, not quality.

How was this ranking created?

The products are ordered by estimated monthly revenue per ASIN, not by star rating and not by bestseller rank. Only products with at least 200 reviews and an average of 4.3 stars were included. This is a small subcategory — 133 listings met the search before filtering — so the top ten covers a large share of what actually sells.

How the score is calculated — and what it is not

The score is not our own hands-on test. It is calculated transparently from public Amazon data: 75% from the average star rating and 25% from the number of reviews, weighted logarithmically. The ranking order itself comes from estimated monthly revenue per ASIN. Prices, ratings and review counts were retrieved from Amazon.co.uk on 22 July 2026 and can change at any time.
